New Album :The Kooks - Konk

The new album from The Kooks will be released on april 14th.

You can already hear the first single "Always where I need to be" .

Eventhough "Konk" is full of great fresh popsongs as their previous delivery, the guitars sound is sometimes a lil bit heavier and the voice of Luke Pritchard seems to reach maturity .

Maybe the change is not so evident but the evolution is real and goes in the rite direction...

The boys are growing up!

Trackisting:

  1. See the sun : The song starts in a nostalgic mood and quickly wakes you up with shiny guitars. The rite song to buck you up ...

  2. Always where I need to be : The first single, full of energy in the same vein of the previous LP.

  3. Mr. Maker : accoustic guitars for a retro sounding track, maybe too retro... Maybe the weakest track of the LP .

  4. Do you Wanna : let's go electric with this one, more rock I really like this track that you couldn't have found on "inside in, inside out". This is my personnal crush.

  5. Gap: good rythm, you can hear how Luke has improved his singing and appreciate cool sound effects.

  6. Love it All: A Steve-Miller-Band's-The-Jokerish song , can't say better.

  7. Stormy Weather: The style is rougher on this one, The Kooks are rocking.

  8. Sway: Rather classic pop ballad but pumped up with electric guitar access...

  9. Shine On: real pop, lil boring if you don't appreciate the "shalalas"...

  10. Down the Market : yes! They are resolutely way better with electric guitars...

  11. One Last Time : a good slow one, reminds me of "I'm on fire" by Bruce Springsteen and yes , it's a compliment!

  12. Tick Of Time : a false funny beginning and the song itself is more a duet , voices match perfectly , great rhythmic...

  13. All over Town (hidden track) : I'm not a huge fan of "hidden tracks" which are never really hidden... This one is a cool accoustic ballad in a 70's style , a good way to close softly the door and step out gently of this excellent record...

Conclusion: Good balance beetween nostalgic moods and positive energy , "The Konk" isn't a revolution but just a good record , and there are not so many...

The best of Radiohead ?

Dunno if it'll be good for the band's image but it'll be obviouly good for EMI bank account!
They are set to release a Radiohead Greatest Hits album to coincide with Radiohead’s upcoming tour. Radiohead’s former label seem determined to make some money from the band’s current activities.
When Radiohead announced the release of their ‘In Rainbows’ Discbox in December, EMI quickly followed with the release of the 7 albums (6 studio, 1 live) as a box set which included the albums as digipacks, download and USB-stick.
Now the tour is coming up , EMI have got another release up their sleeves; the long feared Greatest Hits album. Ed O’Brien (guitar player) [laughing]: “They’re planning to do a Greatest Hits for April, May to coincide with our tour. That’s an interesting one. We won’t be doing any promotion for that, obviously.”
In an interview , Phil Selway (drummer) quickly commented on a Greatest Hits album as well: “It’s well within their rights to do it. [sigh]. So we’ll have to see.”
Now we have to bet on which songs will be included . You start.....
