New Album :The Kooks - Konk

The new album from The Kooks will be released on april 14th.
You can already hear the first single "Always where I need to be" .
Eventhough "Konk" is full of great fresh popsongs as their previous delivery, the guitars sound is sometimes a lil bit heavier and the voice of Luke Pritchard seems to reach maturity .
Maybe the change is not so evident but the evolution is real and goes in the rite direction...
The boys are growing up!
Trackisting:
- See the sun : The song starts in a nostalgic mood and quickly wakes you up with shiny guitars. The rite song to buck you up ...
- Always where I need to be : The first single, full of energy in the same vein of the previous LP.
- Mr. Maker : accoustic guitars for a retro sounding track, maybe too retro... Maybe the weakest track of the LP .
- Do you Wanna : let's go electric with this one, more rock I really like this track that you couldn't have found on "inside in, inside out". This is my personnal crush.
- Gap: good rythm, you can hear how Luke has improved his singing and appreciate cool sound effects.
- Love it All: A Steve-Miller-Band's-The-Jokerish song , can't say better.
- Stormy Weather: The style is rougher on this one, The Kooks are rocking.
- Sway: Rather classic pop ballad but pumped up with electric guitar access...
- Shine On: real pop, lil boring if you don't appreciate the "shalalas"...
- Down the Market : yes! They are resolutely way better with electric guitars...
- One Last Time : a good slow one, reminds me of "I'm on fire" by Bruce Springsteen and yes , it's a compliment!
- Tick Of Time : a false funny beginning and the song itself is more a duet , voices match perfectly , great rhythmic...
- All over Town (hidden track) : I'm not a huge fan of "hidden tracks" which are never really hidden... This one is a cool accoustic ballad in a 70's style , a good way to close softly the door and step out gently of this excellent record...
Conclusion: Good balance beetween nostalgic moods and positive energy , "The Konk" isn't a revolution but just a good record , and there are not so many...

The best of Radiohead ?

Dunno if it'll be good for the band's image but it'll be obviouly good for EMI bank account!
They are set to release a Radiohead Greatest Hits album to coincide with Radiohead’s upcoming tour. Radiohead’s former label seem determined to make some money from the band’s current activities.
When Radiohead announced the release of their ‘In Rainbows’ Discbox in December, EMI quickly followed with the release of the 7 albums (6 studio, 1 live) as a box set which included the albums as digipacks, download and USB-stick.
Now the tour is coming up , EMI have got another release up their sleeves; the long feared Greatest Hits album. Ed O’Brien (guitar player) [laughing]: “They’re planning to do a Greatest Hits for April, May to coincide with our tour. That’s an interesting one. We won’t be doing any promotion for that, obviously.”
In an interview , Phil Selway (drummer) quickly commented on a Greatest Hits album as well: “It’s well within their rights to do it. [sigh]. So we’ll have to see.”
Now we have to bet on which songs will be included . You start.....

Las Rayas Blancas formerly known as The White Stripes.

The band will release 'Conquista' under the name Las Rayas Blancas (The White Stripes in Spanish) in the US on February 19. It will be their first record in spanish and it's , of course, a new version of "conquest".
The single, which will be available on CD and 7-inch vinyl, features a B-side acoustic version of the song performed by a mariachi band. It also contains the Spanish-language version of the 'Conquest' video, directed by Diane Martel.

Of Montreal under covers...

Of Montreal loves to make covers, showing their musical influences. From the pop music of the 60's to the 70's rock, from The Beatles to Prince, from Bowie to some more recent bands (The Shins, Broadcast) including the cover of M.I.A's Jimmy , a website has listed something like 52 covers from live performances or EP and you can listen to them here !!!
The White Stripes sued!
The White Stripes are being sued for $70,000 for sampling a Canadian radio show eight years ago.Quebec radio host Dominique Payette says that the duo used a ten-second sample from her radio show without permission, and claims her privacy has been violated. The sample appears on the track called 'Jumble, Jumble' from the band’s second album, 2000's 'De Stijl'.

Peter but not Bjorn and John...
After two years of work, beetween Sweden and the US , Peter Moren , known as Peter,Bjorn and John singer, will release his debut solo album on April 8.
It'll be tittled ‘The Last Tycoon’ and has been written during "the writter's block" tour.
You 'll ear some of these tunes at South By Southwest in March . A tour is highly envisaged...
what's next for The Kooks?
The Kooks have announced that their bassist Max Rafferty has left the band permanently. His decision might be the consequence of his chronic health problems.
The Kooks will be continuing with the forthcoming shows with Dan Logan as bassist (from the local Brighton band Cat The Dog) . The Kooks release their second album 'Konk' on April 14.
Then several UK tour date are scheduled...
Scarlett Johansson and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The oscarized actress Scarlett Johansson will release her album "Anywhere I Lay My Head" this spring ( 20th may ). She has worked with Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the producer David Sitek (TV On The Radio) in Dockside Studios (Louisiana).
The record should include 10 Tom Waits' covers and one original song...
This is not really her "debut" in the music area , indeed she appeared in Justin Timberlake's video 'What Goes Around' and sung with The Jesus And Mary Chain in Coachella Festival.

New album : The Do - A mouthful

If you want to discover a new and fresh band , just listen to TheDo...
This band, from Helsinki and Paris (weird have you said?) is in fact a duet including Olivia B.Merilahti and Dan Levy , both writing and playing.
Their first album "A mouthful" is far from perfection (sometimes they seem a little bit lost beetween very different styles) but some tracks are really amazing , combining an apparent simplicity with a real inventiveness.
Watch our video of the week : The Do live at "ce soir ou jamais" playing The bridge is broken.
Try them : (the sample)

Albert Hammond Jr, well known to be the 'fro-haired guitarplayer of The Strokes, is currently mixing his second solo album. Not so long after his first escape "Yours to keep" , released in 2006, its successor should be out during 2008' spring.
The new LP will explore new moods from the softest to the hardest ...
Let's bet will find back the "rock spirit " which was more present during the live performances than on the record.
Concerning possible guests , the name of Sean Lennon has been mentionned.
The Yeah yeah yeahs are about to start the recording of their next album.According to their official website , they have nearly finished the writing phase and will soon reach the studio doors...
After "show your bones" and the "IsIs" EP , we're wondering how will this next one sound like...
